NOC saves Rs 1 billion through operation of petro pipeline

KATHMANDU: It has been a year since the Motihari-Amlekhgunj Petroleum Pipeline came into operation and the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) informed that bringing petroleum products by pipeline has saved the corporation over Rs 1 billion.

Binit Mani Upadhyaya, spokesperson of the corporation, said that more than Rs 1 billion has been saved in the last one year as cases of oil pilferage were fully controlled following operation of the pipeline.

As per NOC, the corporation imported 534,103,000 liters of fuel via the pipeline in the last one year.

The depots in Bhairahawa, Amlekhgunj and Biratnagar earlier used to separately bring petroleum products in tankers themselves. The oil, especially diesel, for the domestic market today comes to Amlekhgunj through the pipeline.

The NOC is also preparing to bring in petrol via the pipeline in full swing soon.

Executive heads of Nepal and India had inaugurated the Motihari-Amlekhgunj petroleum pipeline from their respective residences last year.

As per NOC, the pipeline has the capacity to supply up to 294 kiloliters of petroleum products per hour.
