Internet to get dearer

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority is preparing to increase the fare of optical fiber, which is expected to make internet quite dearer.

The Board of Directors of NEA has decided to increase the rent for the use of optical fiber and other infrastructures. As internet service providers are using NEA’s electricity distribution poles, transmission poles and other towers on rent, NEA’s decision to increase rental charges for ISPs is expected to make internet dearer.

Sudhir Parajuli, president of the Internet Service Providers’ Association, said that the NEA increased the rental fee for internet service providers and they are against this decision of NEA as the increased rent in infrastructure will directly and indirectly affect the tariffs paid by the customers.
