Mt K2’s world record climbers arrive home

KATHMANDU: Nepali climbers who have set a world record by climbing the world’s second-highest mountain ‘Mt K2’ in the winter season have returned to Kathmandu this morning.

The team including Nirmal Purja was welcomed at Tribhuvan International Airport this morning by different tourism organizations. Representatives from different tourism organizations have arrived at the airport to welcome them.

Ten Nepali mountaineers had successfully climbed Mount Ketu Himal in Pakistan on January 16.

Nepal’s Nirmal Purja, Mingma G. Sherpa, Mingma David Sherpa, Mingma Tenji Sherpa, Gelje Sherpa, Dawa Temba Sherpa, Pemchiri Sherpa, Kilupemba Sherpa, Dawa Tenzing Sherpa, and Sonam Sherpa climbed the 8,611-meter high mountain at 5:45 pm local time on Saturday.

Among the ten climbers, Nirmal Purja had climbed without oxygen.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced to award all the ten climbers with national recognition.
