Plans afoot to allow in-flight internet in Nepali sky

KATHMANDU:  The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) is preparing to allow airlines use internet facility above 10,000 feet in Nepali sky.

The proposal to allow use of internet inside flying aircraft is current at the NTA board. As soon as the proposal is passed, NTA will issue no objection letter to international airlines flying to and from Nepali sky to use internet facility, informed Purshottam Khanal.

Citing that internet use inside aircraft is essential, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), had allowed use of internet inside flying aircraft almost 15 years before. As per NTA, aircrafts flying below 10,000 feet will not be allowed use of internet as provision of internet at low altitudes could affect the services of local telecom service providers.
