PM Oli’s challenge: Remove me or form a national government under my leadership

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has challenged the opposition to form an alternative government. If not, Oli also appealed to form a national government under his leadership.

Addressing a press meet today, Oli said that he is ready to provide constructive support to the government by sitting in the opposition if an alternative government is formed.

Oli said that he had called Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba today and urged him to form a national government. “This morning, I called him and told him to form a government. If not, let’s form a national government under my leadership,” he said.

Furthermore, Oli said that the Parliament would not be dissolved if oppositions support him.

Earlier on Thursday, President Bidya Devi Bhandari had called for the formation of a new government based on Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.

Issuing a press statement this evening, the Office of President stated that President Bhandari has called on the members of the House of Representatives to present the basis for the appointment of a new Prime Minister as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.

President Bhandari had given deadline of 5 pm on Friday for formation of the new government.

Article 76 (5) of the Constitution states that if any member presents a ground on which he or she can get vote of confidence in the Parliament, the President shall appoint such member as the Prime Minister.
