6.5% economic growth target set for FY 2021-22

KATHMANDU: Despite the pandemic continuing to hit country’s economy and business badly, the government has set optimistic economic growth target of 6.5 percent for 2021-22 fiscal year.

Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, through the budget speech for upcoming fiscal year, projected that country’s gross domestic product (GDP) would grow by 6.5 per cent in the next fiscal year as government would put efforts to control the Covid-19 spread and help revive businesses and the economy.

Though the government itself has already acknowledged that achieving 4.01 percent economic growth set for the ongoing fiscal year is unachievable due to Covid-19 difficulties, the government went on to set quite optimistic growth forecast for the next fiscal year.
