Hackers’ threat: NRB clarifies banking system fully secured, investigation on

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has made it clear that its system and that of all banks and financial institutions (BFIs) in Nepal are secure.

The NRB has given such explanation after some strangers threatened to hack the financial system through phone and email.

“We received phones and emails from strangers threatening to hack the banking system and we tested all our and security in the banking system. We found everything is fine,” said NRB governor Maha Prasad Adhikari.

There was a threat on Wednesday evening to steal money by hacking the systems of 14 commercial banks including Nepal Rastra Bank. NRB spokesperson Dev Kumar Dhakal and information officer Narayan Prasad Pokhrel had received threats from unknown persons through phone and email.

Even Nabil Bank CEO Anil Keshari Shah had received an email on Wednesday evening threatening to hack the system from a stranger.

Meanwhile, NRB has also urged all banks and financial institutions to remain alert and keep their system updated and intact.
