KATHMANDU: The government has decided to vaccinate the citizens who have not been able to get the second dose of Covishield on August 9 and 10.

Of the 1.6 million doses provided by Japan under the Covax facility, 500,000 doses arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday (August 7). Minister of State for Health Umesh Shrestha said that 513,420 doses of vaccines have been received and another 500,000 doses would be delivered on Sunday.

Jhalak Sharma Gautam, head of the vaccination center under the Department of Health Services, informed that the government has decided to vaccinate people above the age of 65 who have received the first dose of vaccine. They will be receiving the second dose from Monday. The vaccination would be conducted from the same vaccination centers from where they received the shots previously.

As per him, “Covishield is also a vaccine based on AstraZeneca formula. It boosts the effectiveness of the AstraZeneca vaccine,” he said. He said that 1.6 million doses of vaccines would be delivered from Japan by this week.
