Liabilities, assets, documents of NRA transferred to NDRRMA

KATHMANDU: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has been formally handed over to the designated bodies on Thursday as per the decision of the Government of Nepal.

The NRA ceases to exit from today handing over the remaining responsibilities and capital to the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

In the presence of Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, Secretary Sushil Chandra Tiwari handed over a file, including documents related to major structures reconstructed including Dharahara, Singha Durbar, Ranipokhari and Shantibatika, among others, to Urban Development Ministry Secretary Maniram Gelal.

Likewise, the remaining works for reconstruction and rehabilitation, legal and policy arrangements, implementation of decisions and orders received from the Appeal Committee and coordination related facilitation and monitoring was handed over to the NDRRMA.

NRA Chief Executive Officer Sushil Gyawali, while discussing the achievements gained, said that disaster resilience development should be taken as an integral part of the national development plan and the NDRRMA should be provided with necessary legal management and manpower along with special legal powers.

Similarly, the NRA has been given the responsibility of preparing the integrated financial statement of the current and capital expenditure for the Fiscal Year 2021/22 and auditing related work.

The NDRRMA will now look after the earthquake housing reconstruction project being implemented as per an agreement with the World Bank.
