Huaxin Cement starts test production from Saturday

KATHMANDU: Huaxin Cement Narayani, a Nepali-Chinese joint venture cement factory, has started test production from its plant in Dhading from Saturday. The test production took place in the presence of the company officials and workers.

Marking its 115th year of producing cements, Huaxin Cement celebrated with the ignition of its plant jointly by 115 workers.

Deputy General Manager of Huaxin Cement Dilli Raj Pokhrel informed that the production started by firing the plant’s clean machine.

“It will still take two months to start commercial production. The test production was also planned for December but it got delayed due to some technical issues,” said Pokhrel.

The company had received electricity services in mid-November. A 132KV electric line from Kathmandu to Marsyangdi has been set up under an investment of around Rs. 1 billion to provide electricity to the plant.
The plant in Dhading is expected to produce 3,000 ton cements – including both OPC and PPC – daily once it comes in full operation.

The company officials assured that a competing environment of cement production on the basis of quality will start once they enter the market.

The plant will be producing cements and clinkers from its own limestone mine to a quality packaging through modern technology.

The cement production plant is also said to be made eco-friendly. “The waste heat recovery will help in producing 5MW electricity,” said Pokhrel.

Huaxin Cement had signed project investment agreement (PIA) with the Investment Board Nepal at Beijing, China, on June 20, 2018, in the presence of then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The agreement was that Huaxin Cement would invest Rs. 14.40 billion for the plant but officials informed that the investment increased due to several unforeseen reasons.

Huaxin Cement is also expected to provide direct jobs to 350 people and indirect jobs to around 1,000.
