Immigration asks foreign tourists to bring cash for on-arrival visa

KATHMANDU: The Immigration Office of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has requested the tourists to carry cash as the electronic transaction is cumbersome.

According to TIA General Manager Prem Nath Thakur, the office has requested tourists to bring 200 US dollars’ worth of foreign currency to make it easier for them to pay for the on arrival visa.

Thakur said, “Tourists applying for on-arrival visas have to wait in line for three to four hours when the software does not work. I had asked the head of the immigration department to publicize the information for tourists to bring cash for on-arrival visas and now the information has been published.”

According to the information released by the Immigration Office, the tourists are requested to carry cash with them to avoid congestion and hassle as the number of tourists visiting Nepal is high at present and there is only one ATM machine at the airport.
