KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari rejoined his office on Wednesday after around a week.
Assuming his office again, Governor Adhikari said he would honestly carry out his duties, adding he does not have any bias against anyone despite the recent controversy.
Last week, the government had suspended him as it formed a three-member investigation committee to look into some charges against him.
Dissatisfied with the decision, Adhikari had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court demanding his reinstatement. The court, hearing the petition on Tuesday, issued an interim order allowing him to work again.
The Nepal Rastra Bank Act has it that the governor or any official of the central bank is automatically suspended once the government launches an investigation against them. Accordingly, NRB Deputy Governor Neelam Dhungana had been given the authority to act as the governor in Adhikari’s absence.
