NEA invites tender for selling 200 MW power in wet season to India

KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has invited tenders to sell electricity stored in Nepal during wet season at competitive rates in India. The NEA on Friday invited tenders and proposals from Indian companies for the sale of 200 MW of power generated from hydroelectric projects in Nepal.

NEA will sell the electricity stored in the country for five months i.e. from 17th to 29th October 207.

According to NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising, business companies licensed to trade electricity through the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission of India, power distribution companies and others will be able to participate in the competition.

Ghising, executive director, said, “We have got approval to sell up to 364 MW of power in the Indian market, out of which we have invited tenders for the sale of 200 MW, which bids at higher rates through competition.” Electricity will be provided to the selected eligible companies after completing the entire tender process from July 1.

Interested firms will have to submit their proposals by 12 noon on June 13 and the proposal will be opened at 1 pm on the same day. Provision has been made for interested companies not to submit proposals for purchase of less than 50 MW. The companies will have to deposit ‘Earnest Money’ of INR 30,000 (Rs 48,000) per MW of the amount offered by them.
