House panel directs govt to take forward Nijgadh Airport project by removing legal hurdles

KATHMANDU: The International Relations Committee of the Parliament has directed the government to take forward the construction of Nijgadh International Airport by removing the legal hurdles.

A full bench of the Supreme Court had recently ordered the government not to build Nijgadh Airport citing environmental concerns. However, the parliamentary committee meeting held on Sunday directed the government to expedite the construction of the airport project by removing the legal hurdles.

“It has been decided to direct the government to carry out the necessary legal, administrative and practical work to expedite the construction of Nijgadh International Airport, which is essential for the national interest, security and economic development,” said the committee.
