KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has resigned from his post. Sharma’s resignation came following decision of the Parliament to form a 11-member probe committee to probe the tax rate manipulation controversy involving Finance Minister Janardan Sharma.

The main opposition CPN-UML had been demanding the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee saying that Finance Minister Sharma had involved unauthorized persons in the preparation of the budget.

Speaker Agni Sapkota has given the probe committee a 10-day mandate to investigate the issue.

Sharma has been charged of changing tax rates in the budget for the next fiscal year through support from some outsiders. Following criticism, there was a call to investigate the CCTV footage. However, the ministry has already said the footage was automatically deleted.
