CNI urges PM Deuba to address liquidity problems, effective budget implementation

KATHMANDU: The discussions have been held between the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on the economic situation of the country, budget implementation, monetary policy, promotion of new initiatives and other issues.

A delegation of CNI led by its president Vishnu Kumar Agrawal met with the Prime Minister at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar on Thursday and discussed the current economic issues.

The Confederation drew the attention of the Prime Minister to the recent economic situation of the country and the steps to be taken for the successful implementation of the budget, according to a press statement of the CNI.

The meeting discussed the issues to be addressed through the forthcoming monetary policy, foreign exchange reserves and immediate and long-term policies to promote investment.

They also discussed the global fuel crisis and its impact on the country’s economy, read the press statement.

President Agrawal briefed about the economic condition of the country and the steps to be taken to improve the liquidity shortage in the banking and financial sector.

He suggested that the existing liquidity problems should be addressed through the forthcoming monetary policy as the investment expansion and registration of new industries have been affected due to liquidity problems.

At the meeting, the delegation briefed the prime minister on the activities of the confederation along with the upcoming infrastructure conference to be held on September 8 and 9 and other issues.

Stating that the Confederation has been cooperating in the economic policies and programmes taken by the government for the overall economic development of the country, he expressed commitment to continue the cooperation in the days to come.
