GBIA receives its first chartered flight from Vietnam

KATHMANDU: Two months after it came into operation, Bhairahawa’s Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) has hosted its first chartered flight. A 12 seater Hai Air private jet carrying two monks from Vietnam’s Noi Bai International Airport landed at the airport on Wednesday.

GBIA’s General Manager Govinda Prasad Dahal informed that the plane came to Bhairahawa for parking as there was no space at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport.

Ramesh Mahat, head of the airport’s terminal management section, informed that the plane would stay parked at GBIA for five days after which, it will return to Vietnam via Kathmandu.

With respect to commercial flights, Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways is the only airlines that fly to and from the airport. Other carriers have expressed their interest to fly to GBIA but have so far not taken any action.
