Nepal will be upgraded to developing country within 4 years: PM

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that Nepal will be upgraded to a developing nation by 2026. Addressing the Investment Board’s Sustainable Infrastructure Investment Forum on Wednesday, PM Deuba said that by 2026, the country will be upgraded to a developing country by developing infrastructure and economic upgradation.

He said that the current government is working according to the 15th five-year plan by giving priority to infrastructure development.

Prime Minister Deuba said there is a national policy and plan to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2045. He said that 19 billion dollars will be needed to meet the goal of sustainable development. He pointed out that there is a need for the support of the private sector and foreign investors.

He said that the private sector has an important role in the development of infrastructure in the country and urged to increase investment.

He said that there is a situation where large investments can be made in the public private partnership model in Nepal. Prime Minister Deuba said that the Board of Investment has approved plans worth 9 billion dollars for 33 projects and said that 20 of them are large hydropower projects.

He said, “Government has given priority to infrastructure development by giving priority to the 15th five-year plan.” The government has made a national policy to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2045. Due to the covid epidemic, 19 billion dollars are needed to meet the sustainable development goals.

There is a plan to upgrade Nepal to a developing country by 2026 and improve its economic development. Private sector investment is important for infrastructure development in the country and foreign investment is also necessary, so everyone is urged to invest.

A large investment can be made in the public private partnership model in Nepal. The investment board will provide ease to the investors who invest in the investment sector. The Investment Board has approved 9 billion dollars worth of funding for 33 projects, including 20 large hydropower projects.
