‘Ncell Women Icon ICT Award 2022’ awarded to Sheela Kansakar Karkee

KATHMANDU: Ncell Women Icon ICT Award 2022 has been presented to Sheela Kansakar Karkee. She was awarded the award at the grand finale event of the Infodevelopers ICT Awards 2022 held at The Soaltee Kathmandu on Friday.

This award is conferred to women who have made significant contributions to the information and communication technology (ICT) sector of Nepal. The award which carries a purse of Rs. 300,000 was jointly presented to Karkee by Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi, Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol and Ncell’s Chief Human Resources and Administration Officer Yuvraj Shrivastava.

The winner was also provided one year of internet service by Nepal Telecom and cloud service by Huawei.

For the past two years, Ncell has been presenting the Ncell Women Icon ICT Award to honour and encourage the contribution of women in the field of ICT. Last year, the award was conferred to Guna Keshari Pradhan, the first computer engineer of the country.

In order to encourage women in the field of ICT and to appreciate the contribution they have made in this field, in accordance with the company’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policy, Ncell has been conferring this award in collaboration with the ICT Awards.

Karkee is the former DIG of Nepal Police who played an important role in establishing a computer branch in Nepal Police. She had started her government service as a Police Inspector with a job as a system analyst.

Having spent 28 years in the Nepal Police, Karkee is passionate about encouraging and motivating women in ICT. Active in various ICT-related associations and organizations, she has made a significant contribution to bringing Nepal Police to the digital era.
