Pasang Dawa Sherpa equalizes world record with Kami Rita, scaling Everest for 27th time

KATHMANDU: By climbing Mount Everest a second time, Pasang Dawa Sherpa has tied Kami Rita Sherpa for the most ascents in history.

Managing Director of Imagine Nepal Treks Mingma Gyaljen Sherpa reported that the 46-year-old climber stood atop Mt. Everest for the 27th time at around 8:30am.

He said that Pasang Dawa had scaled Everest, becoming the second person in history to complete the mountain’s 27th ascent. Together with the Hungarian Marton Peter Price, he scaled Mount Everest on May 14 of this year.

He was raised with daily views of Everest because he was raised in the nearby town of Pangboche. In 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, twice in 2006, twice in 2007, twice in 2008, twice in 2009, twice in 2010, twice in 2011, twice in 2016, twice in 2017, twice in 2018, twice in 2019, and twice in 2022, he scaled Everest.
