Nepal Tourism Board, USAID collaborate to showcase Nepal’s tourism potential

KATHMANDU: Today marks the official launch of the 2024 International Tourism Campaign, a collaborative endeavor between USAID, the Nepal Tourism Board, and Steller, a renowned global travel-inspired storytelling platform.

Building upon the success of the 2023 campaign, which reached over 16.3 million travelers and garnered $15.8 million in earned media value, this year’s initiative aims to spotlight Nepal’s rich history, cultural diversity, and abundant tourism opportunities to a global audience.

In its second phase, the 2024 campaign will enlist the expertise of international content creators from Steller, who will embark on an exploration of key destinations including Kathmandu, Pokhara, Bardiya, and Illam. Through captivating videos and photos, these creators will capture the essence of Nepal, showcasing its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cultures, and unparalleled hospitality. With an anticipated reach of over 20 million viewers, this initiative seeks to inspire wanderlust and stimulate tourist arrivals, positioning Nepal as a premier destination on the global tourism map.

Speaking at the launch event, U.S. Ambassador to Nepal Dean Thompson underscored Nepal’s vast tourism potential, emphasizing its diverse natural beauty and cultural heritage. Ambassador Thompson reaffirmed USAID’s steadfast commitment to supporting Nepal’s tourism sector, recognizing its pivotal role in driving inclusive economic growth and fostering sustainable development.

Nandini Lahe Thapa, Officiating CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board, echoed Ambassador Thompson’s sentiments, highlighting Nepal’s remarkable tourism growth trajectory. With over 1 million international visitors in 2023, Thapa emphasized the importance of sustained efforts to showcase Nepal’s year-round tourism offerings and position the country as a preferred destination for global travelers.

The partnership between the Nepal Tourism Board, USAID, and Steller reflects a shared commitment to catalyze growth in Nepal’s dynamic tourism industry. By leveraging Steller’s storytelling platform and USAID’s support, the campaign aims to attract investments that will further enhance Nepal’s tourism services and infrastructure, ensuring memorable experiences for visitors while contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.

As Nepal embarks on this ambitious tourism campaign, stakeholders are optimistic about the transformative impact it will have on the country’s tourism landscape, driving increased visitor arrivals, promoting cultural exchange, and fostering sustainable tourism practices for the benefit of present and future generations.
