ICAN launches new plan to create thousands of accounting jobs in Nepal

KATHMANDU – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) has officially launched a major national initiative called the Global Accounting Initiative in Nepal (GAIN). The project aims to turn Nepal into a top international destination for accounting and finance outsourcing.

The announcement was made on Wednesday during a press conference at the Everest Hotel in Kathmandu. During the event, ICAN also released a promotional video and a new web portal specifically designed to connect local accounting professionals with clients from around the world.

Big Goals for the Economy

The GAIN Project is an ambitious plan to boost Nepal’s economy. ICAN estimates that the initiative could create 150,000 jobs every year and bring in USD 6 billion in foreign currency annually over the next ten years.

Currently, about 1,000 Nepali accounting professionals are already working for international clients. Even without a formal system in place, they are earning roughly USD 45 million each year. ICAN believes that with the right branding and government support, these numbers can grow significantly.

Why Nepal?

The project is a response to a global shortage of accountants in developed countries. Because more companies are now comfortable with remote work, Nepal has a unique chance to step in.

The President of ICAN noted that Nepal already has what it takes to succeed, including skilled workers, lower costs, and strong English language skills. “GAIN is not merely a professional initiative; it is an economic transformation agenda,” the President said.

What Happens Next?

Moving forward, ICAN will focus on marketing Nepal’s services globally and helping local professionals improve their skills. The organization also plans to talk with the government about creating better digital infrastructure and special hubs for outsourcing businesses.

The new web portal will act as a verified platform where international companies can find reliable accounting, auditing, and tax services from Nepal.
