Buddha Air reports Rs 7.41 billion revenue in H1, Reflecting decade of steady growth

KATHMANDU: Buddha Air Pvt. Ltd., Nepal’s leading private airline, has recorded a robust revenue of NPR 7.41 billion in the first six months of the fiscal year 2024/25 (2025). This marks a significant milestone for the company, which continues to dominate the domestic aviation sector with a 60% market share.

The airline’s financial performance shows consistent growth over the past decade. In 2024, Buddha Air generated NPR 13.22 billion in operating revenue, an 8.86% increase (NPR 1.05 billion) from NPR 12.16 billion in 2023.

Previous years reflect a similar upward trajectory: NPR 10.09 billion in 2022, NPR 3.33 billion in 2021 (impacted by the pandemic), NPR 4.94 billion in 2020, NPR 6.80 billion in 2019, NPR 6.08 billion in 2018, NPR 5.79 billion in 2017, and NPR 4.25 billion in 2016. The airline’s resilience and strategic expansion have driven this steady growth.

Buddha Air has secured credit ratings for loans totaling NPR 3.08 billion and USD 18.74 million. This includes long-term loans of NPR 1.30 billion and USD 18.74 million, alongside short-term loans of NPR 870 million, an overdraft of NPR 829.9 million, and a bank guarantee of NPR 80 million. ICRA Nepal assigned the company an ICRA NP A2+ rating for short-term loans and an ICRA NP LA- rating for long-term loans, reflecting confidence in its financial stability.

Established in 1996 with an 18-seater aircraft, Buddha Air has grown into a cornerstone of Nepal’s domestic aviation industry. Operating from its headquarters in Lalitpur and its primary hub at Tribhuvan International Airport, the airline serves major cities including Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, Janakpur, and Bhadrapur. Additionally, its popular Himalayan sightseeing flights and special Annapurna region flights from Pokhara continue to attract both domestic and international tourists.

Buddha Air’s consistent financial growth and dominant market presence underscore its critical role in Nepal’s aviation sector. As it continues to expand services and maintain operational excellence, the airline remains a key driver of connectivity and tourism in the country.
