KATHMANDU: In a historic move for Nepal’s digital payment ecosystem, IME Digital Solution Ltd. (IME Pay) and Khalti Pvt. Ltd. officially announced their merger on Thursday, launching a unified platform under the brand name IME Khalti.
The announcement was made at a formal event, where the two leading digital wallet service providers revealed their strategic integration, marking the first major merger in Nepal’s digital wallet sector.
Following the merger, the newly formed company will operate under IME Khalti Limited, with its head office located in Panipokhari, Kathmandu. The combined user base now exceeds 12.7 million, establishing the platform as Nepal’s largest digital payment network.
The Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Bam Bahadur Mishra, handed over the operating license to the newly formed entity. Binay Khadka, previously the CEO of Khalti, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IME Khalti. Khadka is recognized for his impactful leadership in the fintech space and has played a pivotal role in expanding Khalti’s reach across the country.
The company now operates with a paid-up capital of Rs. 540 million. The Board of Directors consists of seven members, with Krishna Prasad Sharma (Chairman of IME Digital Solutions) appointed as the Board Chairman. Other board members include Diwakar Poudel, Sitaram Thapa, Pravin Regmi, Amit Agrawal, Arvind Shah, and Manish Modi.
Chairman Sharma expressed optimism that IME Khalti will play a transformative role in achieving the vision of Digital Nepal, enhancing financial inclusion and driving innovation in electronic payments.
The merger brings together IME Pay, which received its operating license on 20 June 2017 (Asar 5, 2074 BS), and Khalti, which was licensed on 15 April 2019 (Baisakh 2, 2076 BS). IME Pay is backed by the IME Group, while Khalti has received investment from WorldLink and Triveni Group.
This unification marks a milestone in the fintech sector and is expected to accelerate the adoption of digital payments across Nepal, benefiting both urban and rural users.
