KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel held high-level bilateral talks today with Chen Xiaodong, Chairman of China’s International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), at the Ministry of Finance.
The meeting covered strengthening Nepal–China development cooperation across key sectors, including healthcare infrastructure, human resource development, and cross-border energy trade.
Following the talks, four major Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed:
Construction of a Bone Marrow Transplant Center at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur
Feasibility Study for expansion of the Civil Servants’ Hospital
Human Resource Development Agreement, enabling 1,270 Nepali officials to participate in Chinese training programs
Feasibility Study for the Rasuwa–Kerung Cross-Border Transmission Line
Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay and CIDCA Chairman Xiaodong formalized the agreements on behalf of their respective governments.
The new bone marrow center will span 1,834 square meters and introduce advanced cancer treatment in Nepal. The hospital expansion and HR training programs are expected to significantly boost public service delivery and professional capacity.
The Rasuwa–Kerung transmission line, once developed, will play a vital role in facilitating Nepal–China cross-border electricity trade.
China Commits Support for Post-Flood Reconstruction in Rasuwa Chairman Xiaodong also expressed China’s commitment to support Nepal in rebuilding physical infrastructure damaged by recent floods in Rasuwa district. He pledged fast-tracked customs processing and swift project execution.
Minister Paudel, acknowledging China’s solidarity, emphasized the strategic and fiscal importance of the Rasuwa border post:
“Rasuwa is not just crucial for trade but also as a key customs revenue point. We aim to accelerate its reconstruction,” said Minister Paudel.
