KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has instructed ministry secretaries to implement the fiscal year 2025-26 budget with a clear timeline and structured plan.
During a meeting held today at the Ministry of Finance, Minister Poudel emphasized the need for annual plans and schedules to ensure effective budget execution.
He assured that the Ministry of Finance would provide full support to facilitate timely implementation, urging secretaries to take proactive steps to deliver measurable results. “Timely and result-oriented budget execution is critical to achieving our economic goals,” Poudel stated, stressing the importance of coordinated efforts across ministries.
The meeting also focused on expanding non-tax revenue sources within existing legal frameworks. He directed officials to identify and maximize new avenues for non-tax revenue to bolster fiscal resources.
According to the Ministry of Finance, non-tax revenue in the fiscal year 2024-25 amounted to NPR 128 billion, accounting for 10.9% of total revenue. Discussions centered on exploring additional sources and implementing strategies to enhance collections.
The meeting saw participation from the Finance Secretary, Revenue Secretary, and secretaries from various ministries, who deliberated on actionable steps to strengthen budget execution and revenue generation. Minister Poudel underscored the need to avoid delays and ensure inter-ministerial coordination to meet the fiscal year’s objectives.This directive is expected to streamline budget implementation and support Nepal’s economic stability and development goals for the coming year.
