KATHMANDU: The price of gold in the Nepali market has hit a historic high, crossing the NPR 200,000 per tola mark for the first time. On Friday, the price of fine gold rose by NPR 1,200 per tola, reaching NPR 206,000, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association.
This new record surpasses the earlier peak of NPR 199,400 per tola, set on August 7 (23 Shrawan). The same level was revisited again on Thursday before gold climbed to its highest-ever point on Friday.
Alongside gold, the price of silver also edged up in the domestic market. Silver increased by NPR 5 per tola, reaching NPR 2,360 from Thursday’s NPR 2,355 per tola.
The sharp rally in precious metals reflects global market volatility, with investors flocking to safe-haven assets amid economic uncertainty, fluctuating U.S. interest rate expectations, and geopolitical risks.
