KATHMANDU: Members of the Council of Ministers led by Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki are scheduled to take the oath of office and secrecy today at 11:30 AM. According to the President’s Office, the swearing-in ceremony will take place under a tent set up at the Shital Niwas premises, where preparations are currently underway.
Karki, appointed as the head of the interim government last Friday, finalized the names of three ministers on Sunday. Former finance secretary and chair of the High-Level Economic Reform Recommendation Commission, Rameshore Khanal, has been assigned the Finance Ministry.
Advocate Om Prakash Aryal is set to take charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs along with the Ministry of Law, while former Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) executive director Kul Man Ghising will lead the Ministry of Energy and also oversee the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, Transport, and Urban Development.
However, the appointments have triggered discontent within a faction of Sudhan Gurung’s youth group. They staged a protest in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar on Sunday night, chanting slogans against Karki’s ministerial picks.
Khanal is recognized for his expertise in economic reforms, having recently submitted a comprehensive reform report to the government. Aryal, a legal practitioner, has been prominent in filing writ petitions and supporting social movements, and more recently served as the legal adviser to Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah. Ghising, widely known for addressing Nepal’s power crisis during his NEA leadership, was previously removed during the KP Sharma Oli administration.
