KATHMANDU: The Pediatric Surgery Department of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Kathmandu, has received vital medical equipment support through the coordination of Rotary Nyatapol. The donation includes a portable video X-ray machine and two vein detection devices (venometers), aimed at easing emergency treatment for children.
The contribution was made possible with financial support from Sagar Lohani, Director of Churchill College in Australia and a member of Rotary Nyatapol, who has been involved in social service for over 17 years. The equipment was formally handed over to the hospital by Captain Vijay Lama.
According to hospital officials, the lack of vein detection devices had long complicated pediatric treatment. “Such support will make treatment easier and help ensure faster and quality healthcare services for children,” said Associate Professor and senior pediatric surgeon Dr. Dinesh Koirala.
Expressing his motivation, Lohani stated, “With modern equipment like venometers and a video X-ray machine, treatment for children will become much easier. I am happy to contribute to the hospital and work for others.” Rotary Nyatapol and Lohani have been consistently supporting the hospital’s surgical ward with medical supplies and financial aid, with plans for further assistance in the upcoming Rotary year 2025/26.
During the handover, Associate Professor Brendan Boyle of Newcastle University, Churchill College CEO David Knight, and Churchill College representative Sibon Labina observed the pediatric ward and expressed willingness to support future initiatives.
Captain Lama, speaking on the occasion, remarked that contributions from Nepalis abroad have made a significant impact on strengthening Nepal’s healthcare sector.
