Ncell files police complaint with CCTV evidence on vandalism, arson, and looting at Lainchaur headquarters

KATHMANDU: Telecom giant Ncell has lodged a formal complaint at the Kathmandu District Police Office against criminal groups allegedly involved in the violent vandalism, arson, and looting that took place on September 9, 2025 (Bhadra 24, 2082 BS) at its iconic headquarters, Ncell Icon in Lainchaur, Kathmandu.

The company reported that during the Gen Z protests and demonstrations, criminal groups took advantage of the unrest, stormed the premises, and caused extensive damage to property and infrastructure. Ncell’s complaint has demanded that those involved be arrested, investigated thoroughly, prosecuted under the law, and made to compensate for both the looted property and fire-related destruction.

Details of the Incident

According to the complaint, the mob:

Threatened and confined security personnel by locking them in a room and intimidating them with threats of being set on fire.

Smashed glass panels at the entrance and forced their way inside the building.

Vandalized and set fire to the customer service center and reception on the ground floor.

Raided all ten floors, destroying office equipment, furniture, documents, and valuables.

Looted original company certificates, licenses, land ownership documents, and other crucial legal papers along with cash and company safes.

Set fire to and looted luxury vehicles, including both company-owned and leased cars, after seizing the keys and torching vehicles inside and outside the compound.

Targeted employee lockers, stealing laptops, personal belongings, and jewelry.

Destroyed fitness equipment, meeting hall electronics, and office supplies either by setting them ablaze or carrying them away.

The vandalism extended to staff vehicles, which were also smashed and set on fire, causing massive economic and physical losses.

Losses and Evidence Submitted

Ncell stated that it has already shared with police:

A comprehensive list of looted property and destroyed assets.

The complete CCTV footage of the incidents, which has been handed over to assist with investigations.

The complaint further mentioned that an independent valuation of the actual losses is ongoing, and more details will be provided to police as part of the investigation.

Ncell Seeks Legal Action and Compensation

The company has appealed for the strongest legal punishment against those responsible, recovery of looted items, and adequate compensation for damages. It underscored that such organized vandalism, arson, and looting in the guise of protests not only disrupt telecommunications services but also severely affect the investment climate and business environment in Nepal.
