Dedicated and Trunk line issue resurfaces; NEA sets ultimatum for dues payment

KATHMANDU: The long-disputed and controversial issue surrounding dedicated feeders and trunk lines has once again resurfaced. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has issued an ultimatum to industrial consumers to clear their outstanding electricity dues by Kartik 17 (November 3).

The NEA has formally directed industries receiving electricity through dedicated feeders and trunk lines to pay all pending dues by the set deadline. Previously, industrial consumers using these lines from Magh 2072 to Baisakh 2075 BS (approximately January 2016 to April 2018) were given the opportunity to file for administrative review of their outstanding bills by the end of Jestha 2082 (June 2025).

However, during a board meeting held on Asoj 10 (September 26), the NEA’s Board of Directors decided to revoke the earlier provision allowing administrative reviews and annulled all related processes.

The same meeting also decided to extend the deadline for dues payment by 21 days—based on previous notices issued on Ashar 31, Asoj 24, and Kartik 29—and set the new final date as Kartik 17 (November 3), the NEA confirmed.

Consumers who wish to pay their dues in installments can apply for a payment plan of up to 28 months, according to the NEA. Failure to pay the dues by the new deadline will lead to actions under the Electricity Tariff Collection Regulations, 2078 BS, the authority warned.
