Lichibari Land Scam: CIAA Files corruption case against two former ministers and five others

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against seven individuals, including two former ministers, in connection with the Lichibari land scam in Pokhara. The high-profile case has once again drawn public attention to deep-rooted irregularities in Nepal’s land management and administrative system.

According to the CIAA, the case was filed at the Special Court on Wednesday, implicating former Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Raj Kumar Gupta, former Minister for Land Management Balram Adhikari, and former Minister Ranjita Shrestha, among others. The anti-graft body has demanded financial compensation for the alleged misuse of authority and irregularities during the land transfer and management process in the Lichibari area of Pokhara.

Details of the CIAA Claim

In its charge sheet, the CIAA has sought Rs 7.8 million each in compensation from Raj Kumar Gupta and Ranjita Shrestha, citing their direct involvement in the decision-making process that allegedly facilitated the irregular land transactions.

Similarly, the commission has demanded Rs 5.3 million from Balram Adhikari, Rs 2.5 million from Yam Kumari Gurung, Rs 7.8 million from Tulsi Ram Budhamagar, and Rs 2.5 million from Khambahadur Pun. The charges revolve around suspected corruption and the misuse of ministerial and bureaucratic authority in manipulating public land ownership in favor of private interests.
