PM Karki directs bureaucracy to accelerate development targets, Ensure governance reform

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has instructed all government secretaries, advisors, and senior officials to expedite the implementation of this fiscal year’s development projects, emphasizing accountability, transparency, and service delivery in line with public expectations in the Ministerial Development Action Committee (MDAC).

Speaking at the progress review meeting of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2082/83 (2025/26), Prime Minister Karki expressed dissatisfaction over the unsatisfactory expenditure rate across government agencies. She urged the heads of all subordinate bodies to prioritize and accelerate their respective programs within the remaining months of the fiscal year.

PM Karki highlighted that the recent Gen-Z Movement protests and subsequent vandalism at Singha Durbar had delayed several administrative and development activities. “Despite the disruptions, civil servants must now work with high morale, reflecting the spirit and aspirations of the Gen-Z movement to deliver citizen-friendly and result-oriented services,” she stated.

The Prime Minister directed all agencies under the OPMCM to meet their approved annual targets, milestones, and timelines responsibly. She also ordered a comprehensive update on the damages caused to the Prime Minister’s Office building and other public infrastructure during the protests, instructing for an integrated report to be prepared immediately.

Underscoring the importance of technological advancement in public procurement, PM Karki emphasized the timely completion of IT equipment purchases required for the e-GP System (Electronic Government Procurement), calling it “a crucial component of transparent and efficient public financial management.”

Prime Minister Karki further directed the Ministry of Finance to facilitate timely recommendations on pending issues raised by other ministries to avoid procedural delays.

On international obligations, she stressed that the government must intensify coordination and monitoring efforts to ensure Nepal’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, through effective collaboration among regulatory, investigative, and implementing agencies.

Reaffirming her administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, PM Karki stated, “The current government is fully committed to building a corruption-free, good-governance-oriented state. Every public institution must operate fairly, transparently, and in a citizen-centric manner.” She also directed the National Vigilance Centre to strengthen monitoring mechanisms to ensure impartial service delivery across all state entities.

Concluding her address, the Prime Minister expressed confidence in the dedication of the nation’s civil servants. “All responsible officials must fulfill their assigned duties with utmost responsibility and priority, ensuring that the goals set for this fiscal year are met within the stipulated timeframe,” she said, closing the meeting with a note of appreciation to all participants.
