Nepal’s tea exports decline by 37% in first quadrimester

KATHMANDU: Tea exports through the eastern border point of Kakarbhitta in the first quadrimester (four months) of the current fiscal year (FY) amounted to Rs 1.37 billion (Rs 1,37,30,77,000).

According to Ishwar Kumar Humagain, Information Officer at the Mechi Customs Office, a total of 4,688,932 kilograms of tea were exported to India during the review period. This figure represents a 37% decrease compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

In the first four months of the last fiscal year, tea worth Rs 2.20 billion (Rs 2,20,48,40,000) was exported through the same customs point. This means that the current FY has seen a drop in export value of Rs 831.7 million (Rs 83,17,62,000).
