NEPSE falls 26 points; Five stocks hit 10pc upper circuit as market sees Rs 7 bn turnover

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) opened the week on a negative note on Sunday, with the benchmark index falling 26 points to close at 2,649. Despite the decline, turnover remained strong at Rs 7.08 billion, as investors actively traded 10 million shares of 342 companies.

According to NEPSE data, 45 companies saw their share prices rise, while 211 companies fell, and one remained unchanged. Himalayan Reinsurance recorded the highest turnover at Rs 230 million, followed by Joshi Hydropower with Rs 218.1 million, Green Ventures with Rs 213.5 million, NRN Infrastructure with Rs 210 million, and Nepal Life Insurance with Rs 180 million.

Five companies hit the 10 percent positive circuit limit on Sunday. These were Sagar Distillery, NIFRA Green Energy, Swastik Laghubitta, Jhapa Energy, and Srinagar Agritech.

Most sectoral indices ended lower, with Manufacturing and Processing being the only gainer, up 0.73 percent. Other sectors saw declines: Banking 1.08%, Development Bank 1.09%, Finance 0.83%, Hotel & Tourism 0.29%, Hydropower 1.31%, Investment 1.48%, Life Insurance 1.20%, Microfinance 1.30%, Non-Life Insurance 0.69%, Others 1.04%, and Trading 0.51%.

Market analysts attribute the fall to profit-taking and cautious investor sentiment, even as stocks in hydropower, insurance, and energy sectors remained highly active.
