CAAN Director General Pradeep Adhikari arrested

KATHMANDU: In a major crackdown on corruption within Nepal’s aviation sector, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested Pradeep Adhikari, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), sources confirmed to Fiscal Nepal on Wednesday.

Alongside Adhikari, former CAAN Director General Murari Bhandari has also been taken into custody. Both officials are being investigated in connection with the controversial Bhaktapur Nalinchok helicopter case, which involves alleged large-scale financial irregularities and corruption in aviation operations.

Sources further stated that Adhikari and Bhandari have been presented before the Special Court for an extension of custody as the investigation progresses. The arrests signal intensified scrutiny by Nepalese authorities on mismanagement and corruption within the country’s aviation regulatory framework.

This high-profile case raises concerns over governance, transparency, and safety oversight in Nepal’s civil aviation sector, which is under growing international attention due to expanding tourism and helicopter services across the country.
