KATHMANDU: The Department of Industry has registered 196 new industries in the first quarter of the ongoing fiscal year 2082/83, according to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.
These industries have pledged a combined investment of NPR 70.22 billion, with a projected creation of 12,162 jobs. Of the total registrations, 16 are large industries, 16 are medium-sized, and 164 fall under small industries, the ministry stated.
During the same period, 312 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects received approval. Among them, 198 industries were endorsed through the automatic route, with total FDI commitments reaching NPR 35.16 billion. These FDI-backed projects are expected to generate 15,751 jobs.
The department also concluded 43 trademark-related cases in the first quarter, while 19 recommendations were issued for Certificates of Origin for concessional export to India. Additionally, 24 industries underwent preliminary environmental examinations.
The ministry said it has focused on policy reforms and procedural simplification during the review period, aiming to improve the industrial investment climate, promote trade facilitation, and enhance service delivery.
It added that implementation of the current fiscal year’s budget has begun with a priority on fostering a positive environment for industry, investment, and trade promotion.
