KATHMANDU: IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is poised to cancel nearly 400 flights across four major airports on the fourth day of its worsening pilot-shortage crisis. The cancellations come after the carrier was unable to adjust its roster to comply with new government regulations.
According to airport sources speaking to Reuters, IndiGo intends to cancel 104 flights in Mumbai, 102 in Bengaluru, 85 in Delhi, and 92 in Hyderabad. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak publicly.
The airline, which controls more than 60 percent of India’s domestic air travel market, told the regulator on Thursday that it expects to restore full operations by February 10. IndiGo requested temporary relief from certain restrictions on pilot duty hours at night after being forced to ground hundreds of flights this week due to the shortage of available pilots.
