Partial closure accelerates Nagdhunga-Malekhū road expansion

KATHMANDU: The Nagdhunga–Malekhū road section is undergoing partial closure for a week to expedite road widening and upgrading works.

The Nagdhunga–Muglin Road Project announced that from today until Poush 1, road access will be restricted for five hours daily to accelerate paving and leveling works. According to the project notice, traffic will be halted from Nagdhunga to Piplamod and in the Pokharebhir area from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Project Engineer Keshav Ojha requested travelers to use alternative routes or adjust travel schedules outside the closure hours. He explained that large-scale equipment and transport operations at the construction site increase the risk of accidents, making partial road closure essential for safety and efficiency.

The project also highlighted that the Galkhī–Gajuri section in Dhading remains narrow and hazardous, necessitating road widening, particularly near Pokharebhir.

The Nagdhunga–Naubise section of Tribhuvan Rajpath is in the final stage of paving and leveling. Within Kathmandu district, the Nagdhunga–Piplamod segment has been prioritized for completion.

During the closure, vehicles traveling toward Kathmandu from Nagdhunga will be stopped at Nagdhunga Checkpost, while those heading to Kathmandu from Galkhī will be halted at Khānikhola and Jungekhola. For the Galkhī–Gajuri section, vehicles coming from Naubise will be stopped at Galkhī Baireni and Mastār, and those traveling toward Naubise from Muglin will be halted at Malekhū.

In emergency cases, small and medium vehicles may use the Sitapaila–Bhimdhunga–Ramkot–Dharke route. Alternative routes are also available via Samakhusi–Tokha–Chhahare to Galkhī or through Jarekhēt crossing Trishuli and Ghatbensi bridges.

However, vehicles such as ambulances, security forces, fire trucks, and hearses will also face restrictions, as road widening operations have left rocks and debris obstructing the pathways.

The project aims to improve traffic safety and facilitate smoother transportation along this key arterial route connecting Kathmandu with western districts.
