KATHMANDU: The High Court Butwal has ordered the release of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane from custody after setting bail and additional security conditions.
According to Ram Bahadur Kunwar, Information Officer at the High Court Butwal, the court has ordered Lamichhane’s release upon the deposit of Rs 268 million as bail. In addition to this amount, the court has also directed Lamichhane to furnish an additional Rs 100 million as security (dharauti).
The order was issued by a joint bench of Justices Basudev Acharya and Tej Narayan Poudel, which heard the case on Thursday. Lamichhane had filed a petition seeking release from detention, stating that he was willing to deposit the amount equivalent to the claimed loss (bigo) and remain free during the trial.
The court, after hearing arguments from both sides, ruled that Lamichhane could remain out of custody provided that he complies fully with the bail and security requirements set by the bench.
The decision is expected to have significant political implications, as Lamichhane is the chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, a major emerging political force in Nepal. Further legal proceedings in the case are set to continue while he remains out on bail.
