KATHMANDU: Everest Alliance Nepal (EAN) has officially announced the organization of the second edition of the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026, themed “Himalayan Innovation for a Sustainable Future.” The high-level international summit is scheduled to take place on 27 May 2026 in Kathmandu, coinciding with International Everest Day, which commemorates the historic first ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary.
According to EAN, the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026 will once again bring together Everest summiteers from Nepal and around the world, along with policymakers, mountaineering institutions, conservation leaders, tourism professionals, researchers, and international partners. The summit is envisioned as a global platform for policy dialogue and collaboration on key issues shaping the future of Himalayan mountaineering, including climber safety, climate change, sustainable tourism, and the long-term stewardship of high-altitude regions.
The announcement follows the success of the inaugural Everest Summiteers Summit held in 2025 under the theme “Honoring the Legends, Inspiring the Future.” The first summit was widely regarded as a landmark event in Nepal’s mountaineering calendar, bringing together global Everest summiteers, government representatives, international mountaineering organizations, conservation experts, tourism stakeholders, and media. EAN said the 2025 summit contributed to meaningful policy-level discussions, strengthened international cooperation, and reinforced Nepal’s leadership in global mountain stewardship, laying a strong foundation for the second edition.
EAN stated that the 2026 summit will move beyond ceremonial commemoration, with a strong focus on forward-looking solutions. Key priorities include formal recognition of Everest summiteers, preservation of first-hand summit narratives, promotion of ethical and community-centered mountain tourism, and enhanced international cooperation for Himalayan conservation.
The one-day summit will feature keynote addresses, expert panel discussions, and policy dialogues led by Everest summiteers, national and international experts, and institutional leaders. Sessions will address pressing challenges in high-altitude regions such as glacial retreat, waste management, climber welfare, expedition safety standards, and policy reform, while emphasizing Mount Everest’s status as a shared global heritage that requires collective responsibility.
Everest Alliance Nepal said participants are expected from across Nepal and the global climbing and conservation community, reflecting the summit’s symbolic role in highlighting human resilience, cooperation, and respect for nature.
As part of the announcement, EAN has officially opened registration for the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026, inviting Everest summiteers worldwide, as well as individuals and institutions interested in engaging with the summit’s objectives, to participate in the event.
Everest Alliance Nepal has also called on government agencies, international organizations, mountaineering federations, academic institutions, sponsors, the global climbing community, and media organizations to collaborate in making the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026 a landmark global event for advancing a sustainable future for the Himalayas.
Everest Alliance Nepal is a national collective platform of Everest summiteers and mountain professionals. The organization is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Mount Everest, advocating for climber safety, environmental sustainability, ethical mountaineering practices, and strengthening Nepal’s leadership in global mountaineering and Himalayan conservation.
