Global IME Bank announces 19 CSR initiatives to mark 19th anniversary

KATHMANDU: Global IME Bank Limited, one of Nepal’s leading commercial banks, has announced a series of 19 impactful programs under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework to mark its 19th anniversary. Building on the success of previous years, the bank aims to strengthen its social contributions across the country while celebrating its milestone.

The bank has a track record of initiating large-scale social programs during its anniversaries. On its 18th anniversary, Global IME Bank implemented programs in education, healthcare, environmental conservation, financial literacy, and humanitarian assistance. That year, the bank also announced a campaign to plant 18,000 saplings nationwide. In collaboration with local governments and community organizations, the bank successfully planted approximately 21,000 trees, supporting environmental protection, livelihoods, and income-generating initiatives.

For its 19th anniversary, the bank plans to focus on education, healthcare, environmental conservation, financial literacy, humanitarian support, and income-generating activities, specifically targeting remote areas, low-income, and underprivileged communities nationwide.

Among the initiatives, the Global IME Healthy Women Program stands out as a major highlight. Under this program, the bank will conduct 14 free women’s health camps across all seven provinces. The camps will provide gynecological check-ups, VIA (cervical cancer) tests, treatment for uterine prolapse, and free medication. Women diagnosed with serious conditions will also receive surgical treatment in a second phase. Over the past five years, in partnership with the Nepal Family Planning Association, more than 10,000 women have benefited from this program.

Additionally, the bank will organize extensive eye check-ups and cataract surgery camps in seven locations across the country. These programs are specifically designed to assist low-income individuals from remote areas who lack access to proper eye care. The bank will also provide free eyeglasses to 1,500 underprivileged students studying in government and community schools.

Healthcare initiatives will extend to general health camps in all seven provinces, targeting impoverished communities. For patients with complex or chronic illnesses, the bank will provide financial assistance, coordinated through local authorities and healthcare institutions.

In the education sector, Global IME Bank has long supported deserving students from low-income families through scholarships for grades 6 to 12. Over the past five years, 140 students have benefited from these scholarships, with the program expanding to include an additional 77 students this year.

Other initiatives include building libraries in remote schools, distributing school uniforms and educational materials to 1,000 students, and providing first aid training and resources. Furthermore, the bank will provide financial support for MPhil and PhD research to meritorious students pursuing higher education in economics, management, and law faculties.

Environmental programs under the Global Green School Initiative include plastic reduction campaigns, tree plantation drives, cleanliness programs, and waste collection center establishment. Waste management training will be conducted in coordination with local governments.

Other CSR activities include blood donation drives in major cities, providing food and assistance to orphanages and children’s homes, and awareness programs on autism for children, leveraging modern technology. The bank will also distribute sports equipment to schools in remote areas to promote healthy and disciplined youth for nation-building.

To enhance income-generating opportunities, the bank will implement the Entrepreneurship Training Program, offering vocational and skill-based training to underprivileged individuals. Through its 352 branches, the bank will conduct financial literacy programs to raise awareness on electronic fraud prevention and increase banking inclusion nationwide.

Global IME Bank’s CSR initiatives aim to directly benefit marginalized groups and contribute to long-term social development. By linking its anniversary celebrations with social responsibility, the bank sets a new benchmark in Nepal’s banking sector. The programs will cover all seven provinces, reaching low-income and underprivileged communities to create substantial impact in health, education, and environmental awareness.
