KATHMANDU: The government has decided to roll out a nationwide anti-corruption campaign, introducing both preventive and promotional programs aimed at curbing corruption across all levels of the state, three months after the formation of the new administration rooted in the Gen-Z–led good governance movement.
The decision was taken at a meeting of secretaries held on Poush 7, which resolved to implement the anti-corruption drive as a coordinated national campaign rather than isolated institutional efforts. The campaign will formally involve the private sector, alongside non-governmental and community-based organizations, media, and development partners.
According to the decision, ministries and government bodies have been instructed to identify corruption-prone areas and high-risk processes within their respective jurisdictions and design targeted preventive and promotional measures to control potential corruption and unethical practices. These programs will be executed in campaign mode to ensure visibility, coordination, and measurable outcomes.
“The campaign will focus on identifying risk-based areas vulnerable to corruption and implementing preventive and promotional interventions to minimize potential corrupt and improper activities,” the decision states, adding that broad-based partnership and coordination will be ensured during implementation.
The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has already issued formal directives to concerned ministries and agencies to implement the decision. Acting on the prime minister’s instruction, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has sent letters to all local governments, directing them to align with the national anti-corruption campaign and initiate necessary actions at the local level.
The move is being viewed as a significant policy step toward strengthening governance, improving institutional accountability, and restoring public trust, amid sustained public pressure for systemic reform and stricter control over corruption in public administration.
