KATHMANDU: Kailash Bijayananda, the CEO of the global technology firm Leapfrog, has been elected as the Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Nepal (AmCham Nepal). The leadership transition took place during the organization’s fourth Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Kathmandu, where a new executive committee was formed to lead the chamber for the 2026–2027 term.
Bijayananda, who previously served as the Vice Chairman, takes over the role with nearly two decades of experience in the tech sector, having scaled operations across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Nepal.
The newly formed board of directors reflects a broad spectrum of Nepal’s business community, featuring leaders from technology, logistics, and manufacturing. The executive committee now includes Akash Golchha of Ford, Manish Thapa of Xuno, Samarth Mogha representing Mogha Energy, Sneh Rajbhandari from Bottlers Nepal, Suraksha Hamal of Pathao Nepal, and Sachin Karanjit of Deerhold.
The board will also benefit from the continued guidance of founding Chairman Ajit Bikram Shah, legal advisor Semanta Dahal, and the immediate past president, Nirmal Kazi Shrestha.
U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson, attended the event alongside newly arrived Deputy Chief of Mission Scott Urbom and other senior embassy officials. During his remarks, Ambassador Thompson highlighted the strengthening partnership between the U.S. Embassy and AmCham Nepal, noting that the chamber has become a vital platform for commercial diplomacy.
He pointed out the “transformative opportunities” being created by the MCC Nepal Compact, which has encouraged a steady influx of American companies into the local market.
The Ambassador also used the forum to address the need for a more predictable and transparent business environment. He urged the government to take practical steps toward policy stability, which remains a key concern for foreign investors.
Despite recent economic challenges, Thompson praised the resilience shown by the Nepali and American business communities, reaffirming the United States’ commitment to supporting long-term, stable economic growth in Nepal.
The meeting concluded with Executive Director Amir Raj Thapa presenting the board’s progress report, which detailed the chamber’s recent milestone of joining the AmChams of Asia Pacific (AAP) network.
This accreditation now provides Nepali entrepreneurs with a significant seat at the regional table, opening new doors for investment and trade between the two nations.
