KATHMANDU — Juice and jar drinking water produced by two different companies and sold in the market have been found unfit for consumption after failing quality tests. Following laboratory confirmation of substandard quality, the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) has ordered the immediate recall of the affected products and a halt to their sale.
According to the department, products manufactured by two separate industries based in Kathmandu and Bardiya were found to have quality issues. During routine market monitoring, officials identified the products as suspicious and collected samples for laboratory testing. The test results confirmed that the products did not meet the prescribed food safety and quality standards.
In Kathmandu, juice marketed under the brand name “Robot Refresh”, produced by Robot Springs Mineral Water Pvt. Ltd. located in Dakshinkali, was found to be substandard. The affected products include 250 ml packaged juice, specifically mango-flavoured juice with batch number JM12 and guava-flavoured juice with batch number JG6.
Similarly, in Bardiya’s Gulariya, drinking water produced by Anand Drinking Water Industry under the brand “Anand Water” has also been taken into action. The department stated that the 20-litre jar water with batch number 61 was confirmed to be of substandard quality.
Citing Section 38(2) of the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081 (BS), the DFTQC has instructed the concerned industries to immediately withdraw all products of the affected batches from the market. The department has made it mandatory to ensure that none of the identified batches remain in circulation.
Furthermore, under Section 38(4) of the same Act, the department has strictly warned the producers and distributors not to sell or distribute the quality-failed batches in the future. The authority has emphasized that continued monitoring will be carried out, and legal action may follow if the directive is not fully implemented.
The department has also urged consumers to remain cautious, check batch numbers before purchase, and report any suspected substandard food or drinking water products found in the market.
