KATHMANDU: The United States of America has deported an additional 80 Nepali citizens, who arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport on Tuesday at approximately 5:30 PM.
Among the deportees, there was one woman, according to SSP Krishna Pangeni, head of the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deportation.
Preliminary inquiries indicate that most of the returnees had entered the U.S. through irregular channels. One individual had traveled on a student visa, while the others reportedly paid substantial sums—some claiming to have spent up to NPR 14 million—to reach the United States.
Over the past seven years, more than 700 Nepali citizens have been deported from the U.S., with the majority returning after the election of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Authorities are now probing potential human trafficking networks and illegal migration facilitators involved in these cases.
