KATHMANDU: Nepali titaura, a traditional snack with cultural significance, has strong potential as a competitive export product due to rising demand in international markets, according to a study conducted by the Nepal–India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI).
The study highlights significant opportunities for local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to improve operational systems, expand access to formal markets, and integrate into cross-border value chains, particularly with India and other regional partners.
The report was jointly unveiled by Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal, Nepal University Vice-Chancellor Dr Bindu Lohani, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy Dr Rakesh Pandey, and NICCI President Sunil KC. It recommends scaling up production by adopting food safety and quality standards in line with international market requirements.
According to the study, increasing titaura exports will require strengthening local skills, empowering MSMEs, and ensuring coordinated policy and institutional support. NICCI President KC said such support would be decisive in transforming traditional production into export-oriented manufacturing.
The report also urges policymakers, stakeholders, and development partners to prioritize training programs, quality certification processes, and improved access to finance to help position titaura as a sustainable export product from Nepal.
