KATHMANDU: Gold prices in the Nepali market have crossed the historic threshold of Rs 300,000 per tola, setting a new all-time high.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold has been fixed at Rs 301,400 per tola for Friday. This marks the first time gold has exceeded the Rs 300,000 level in the domestic market.
Gold prices surged by Rs 9,200 per tola in a single day. On Thursday, the price had declined by Rs 2,900 to trade at Rs 292,200 per tola.
Federation First Vice President Dharma Sundar Bajracharya said the sharp rise in domestic prices is driven by a strong upswing in the international gold market. In the global market, gold prices have climbed beyond USD 4,950 per ounce.
He noted that growing geopolitical tensions and uncertainty—particularly linked to recent moves by the United States—have prompted central banks across various countries to increase gold holdings.
“With signals of escalating international conflict, central banks are shifting more investment toward gold as a safe-haven asset, which has pushed up both demand and prices,” Bajracharya said.
Silver prices have also increased significantly. The federation has set the price of silver at Rs 6,190 per tola for Friday, up by Rs 320 from the previous day. On Thursday, silver was traded at Rs 5,870 per tola.
