eSewa enters 17th year, Reaffirms commitment to secure and reliable digital payments

KATHMANDU: Digital payment service provider eSewa has entered its 17th year of establishment and service delivery, marking more than a decade and a half of operations in Nepal’s evolving digital finance landscape.

Launched in beta form in 2009 and formally commencing services on January 25, 2010, eSewa has completed 16 years of operations and stepped into its 17th year, tracing a journey from the early adoption of digital payments to becoming a key driver of Nepal’s digital economy.

Operating under the core slogan “For Everyone, Always, Together,” eSewa has positioned itself as a platform aimed at making financial transactions simple, secure, and accessible to all. Over the years, the company has expanded its service portfolio to include mobile top-ups, utility bill payments, airline ticketing, hotel bookings, insurance purchases, movie tickets, loans, and investment services, integrating digital payments into the daily lives of Nepalis.

Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of eSewa’s 17th anniversary and Innovation Day, eSewa Chairman Pashuram Kunwar Chhetri said the company remains committed to further strengthening its services as a leading payment service provider in Nepal by making them more efficient, secure, and reliable.

He emphasized continued collaboration with regulators, users, society, and other stakeholders to expand digital financial services and contribute positively to the broader economy.

Similarly, Chief Executive Officer Jagadish Khadka said eSewa has consistently delivered services guided by the principle of inclusiveness and collective progress. He noted that eSewa’s 17-year journey demonstrates that Nepali companies are capable of competing at the global level.

“We are steadily establishing ourselves as a fintech company capable of competing internationally. We view this achievement not as a destination, but as a foundation for future innovations,” Khadka said.

Throughout its 17-year journey, eSewa has prioritized fast, secure, and convenient payment services alongside financial inclusion.
