India hands over second tranche of election-related assistance to Nepal; Over 250 vehicles delivered

KATHMANDU: The Government of India on Thursday formally handed over the second tranche of election-related assistance to Nepal, reinforcing bilateral cooperation ahead of the country’s upcoming elections. The assistance, comprising more than 250 vehicles, was ceremonially transferred to the Government of Nepal at the Ministry of Finance in Kathmandu in the presence of Nepal’s Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Mr. Rameshore Prasad Khanal.

At the event, Dr. Rakesh Pandey, Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Indian Embassy in Nepal, officially presented the vehicles to Government officials, marking another significant contribution toward Nepal’s electoral preparations. The vehicles are part of supplies requested by the Government of Nepal to support logistics and operational requirements for the forthcoming polls.

In his remarks, Finance Minister Mr. Rameshore Prasad Khanal emphasized the longstanding cooperation and friendly ties between India and Nepal. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government and people of India for the delivery, underlining the importance of the assistance in strengthening Nepal’s electoral process.

“This support from India not only facilitates our preparations for free and fair elections but also demonstrates the depth of friendship and cooperation between our two nations,” the Finance Minister stated.

This second delivery follows the first tranche of election-related assistance, which was handed over to Nepal on 20 January 2026. According to officials, additional deliveries are expected in batches over the coming weeks to complete the assistance package.

Nepal–India cooperation in this context reflects a broader multi-faceted and multi-sectoral development partnership, officials said. Beyond election support, the relationship underscores deep mutual trust and friendship between the people of both countries, spanning economic, cultural, and strategic dimensions.

The continued assistance from India comes at a crucial time as Nepal intensifies preparations for its national elections, with the vehicles and other logistical support expected to play a key role in ensuring efficient electoral operations across the country.
